Grief, at whatever pace it comes

Grief does not move through tidy stages, and it does not finish on the schedule other people expect.

Draft, awaiting clinical review

This page is a working draft. It has not yet been reviewed and approved by our clinical team, and it is not indexed by search engines until it is.

What this is about

It arrives in waves with long flat stretches between them, it attaches to objects and dates and smells, and it can show up as irritability or exhaustion rather than sadness. Grief for a person who was difficult is harder, not easier. Grief that could not be shown at the time, because you were the one holding everyone else together, tends to wait.

What work here looks like

There is nothing to fix here and no version of this you are doing wrong. Therapy is somewhere to put it down for an hour, with someone who will not rush you towards acceptance.

Nothing on this page is a diagnosis. If you are in immediate danger or worried you might act on thoughts of harming yourself, please contact Tele-MANAS (14416 or 1-800-89-14416, available 24×7 across India) or your local emergency services.
