Fenweh: a group of friends of different bodies sharing a meal together, illustrating queer chosen family
Phase of life

Family, and the family you chose

Family is where the first rules were written. Chosen family is where some people finally get to write their own.

Draft, awaiting clinical review

This page is a working draft. It has not yet been reviewed and approved by our clinical team, and it is not indexed by search engines until it is.

What this is about

For many people both are live at once: an obligation to the family they were born into and a deep belonging to the one they built. Holding both takes effort, particularly when they want different things from you, and particularly when you are not out, or not entirely, in one of them.

What work here looks like

Nobody here will tell you to cut anyone off, and nobody will tell you to stay. The work is in seeing the arrangement clearly and deciding what you want to do with it.

Nothing on this page is a diagnosis. If you are in immediate danger or worried you might act on thoughts of harming yourself, please contact Tele-MANAS (14416 or 1-800-89-14416, available 24×7 across India) or your local emergency services.
