Expressive Arts Therapy

Some things are easier to draw, move or make than to say, and that is the whole premise.

Draft, awaiting clinical review

This page is a working draft. It has not yet been reviewed and approved by our clinical team, and it is not indexed by search engines until it is.

What this is about

Expressive arts therapy uses image, movement, sound or writing as a way in. No skill is required and nothing is being judged as art. Working through a material often reaches experience that language has not caught up with yet, particularly early experience, and gives it a shape you can then look at together.

What work here looks like

It suits people who go quiet or abstract when asked to describe a feeling, and people for whom talking has started to feel like a performance. It can be used on its own or alongside talking therapy.

Nothing on this page is a diagnosis. If you are in immediate danger or worried you might act on thoughts of harming yourself, please contact Tele-MANAS (14416 or 1-800-89-14416, available 24×7 across India) or your local emergency services.
