Gestalt Therapy

Gestalt works with what is happening now, in the room and in the body, rather than only with the account of it.

Draft, awaiting clinical review

This page is a working draft. It has not yet been reviewed and approved by our clinical team, and it is not indexed by search engines until it is.

What this is about

Instead of talking about an argument from last week, a gestalt therapist is likely to notice that your jaw tightened as you began, and start there. The interest is in contact and awareness: what you do as feeling approaches, how you interrupt it, and what becomes possible when the interruption is noticed rather than repeated.

What work here looks like

It suits people who find they can explain themselves fluently and still not feel much, and people who want something more experiential than analysis. It can feel unfamiliar at first, and a good therapist will pace it with you.

Nothing on this page is a diagnosis. If you are in immediate danger or worried you might act on thoughts of harming yourself, please contact Tele-MANAS (14416 or 1-800-89-14416, available 24×7 across India) or your local emergency services.
