Narrative Therapy

Narrative therapy separates you from the problem, then looks at who gets to author the story.

Draft, awaiting clinical review

This page is a working draft. It has not yet been reviewed and approved by our clinical team, and it is not indexed by search engines until it is.

What this is about

The working idea is that a person is not the problem; the problem is the problem. Once it is named as something outside you rather than a flaw inside you, it becomes possible to look at where the story came from, whose interests it served, and which parts of your life it has been leaving out. Most people carry counter-evidence they have never counted, and a lot of the work is in taking it seriously.

What work here looks like

It suits people carrying a heavy identity story, especially one handed down by family, community or diagnosis. It sits well with queer-affirmative and culturally grounded work, because it treats context as part of the story rather than noise around it.

Nothing on this page is a diagnosis. If you are in immediate danger or worried you might act on thoughts of harming yourself, please contact Tele-MANAS (14416 or 1-800-89-14416, available 24×7 across India) or your local emergency services.
