Consultant Psychiatrist

Dr. Bhaskar Das

Hello, I’m psychiatrist dedicated to making mental healthcare more accessible, compassionate, and free from judgement.

I believe that seeking help is not a sign of weakness, it is an act of self-awareness and courage. My approach to mental healthcare is rooted in listening without judgement, understanding each person’s unique experiences, and working together to find practical, evidence-based solutions.

I work with a wide range of mental health concerns, including anxiety, depression, OCD, mood disorders, psychosis, stress-related difficulties, and sexual and relationship concerns. I also have a particular interest in LGBTQIA+ mental health and sexual medicine, and strive to create a safe and affirming space where people can speak openly about aspects of their lives that they may find difficult to discuss elsewhere.

How I think about therapy

What I believe therapy is for.

Therapy is something which we gift to ourselves. It’s probably the best form of self love that you will present to yourself. Untangling, cleaning a mess, solving a puzzle is a challenge to be performed alone. And that’s where therapy comes in. It guides you and leads you to the appropriate path so that even if you have to do it alone, you don’t feel you are doing it alone

In the room

What therapy feels like with me.

We’ll explore what brought you here, understand the patterns behind what you’re experiencing, and work together towards meaningful change, not just temporary relief.

I tend to hold the mirror, show the harsh truths and thorns. You may feel the pain initially but slowly you shield yourself up.

Starting out

The first session.

We’ll start with what brings you to the consultation

I’ll ask what has been troubling you, when it started, how it has been affecting your everyday life, and what you would like to be different.

We’ll explore your mental health and your life context.

Depending on what is relevant, we may talk about your mood, anxiety, sleep, relationships, work or studies, family, physical health, past experiences, medications, substance use, and previous experiences with mental healthcare.

I’ll ask questions, but you remain in control and in safe hands.

You do not have to disclose deeply personal experiences, trauma, sexuality, relationships, or anything else before you feel ready. We can take those conversations at your pace.

Fit

Whether we are a good match.

Who I work best with

  • I work best with people who are curious about themselves, willing to have honest conversations, and ready to take an active role in their mental health journey.
  • You may be navigating anxiety, depression, OCD, mood difficulties, relationship concerns, stress, identity-related challenges, sexual concerns
  • I also have a special interest in working with LGBTQIA+ individuals, providing an affirming and judgement-free space to explore mental health

Where I may not be the best fit

I may not be the best fit if you are looking for instant solutions, someone to simply tell you what to do, or a space where difficult patterns will never be challenged

Longer work

We regularly check whether the process is helping.

Your goals may change as you change. We’ll periodically step back and ask: What is getting better? What still feels stuck? What do we need to approach differently? Therapy should remain purposeful rather than becoming something you attend simply out of habit.

Specific experience

What I actually have experience with.

Working with LGBTQIA+ clients

My work with LGBTQI+ communities is not just professional, it is deeply informed by lived experience, community engagement, and years of working alongside people navigating questions of identity, relationships, sexuality, acceptance, and belonging.

As a queer psychiatrist and LGBTQI+ activist, I understand that mental health within the community cannot always be separated from the social realities around us, stigma, family expectations, discrimination, internalised shame, relationship challenges, and the process of finding and embracing one’s authentic self.

My work has included LGBTQI+ mental health, sexual health, HIV prevention and PrEP counselling, community advocacy, and queer community initiatives. These experiences have taught me the importance of creating spaces where people can speak openly without having to explain, defend, or justify who they are.

Whether you are questioning your identity, navigating coming out, dealing with family or relationship difficulties, exploring your sexuality, struggling with internalised stigma, or simply trying to understand yourself better, I aim to offer a space that is affirming, confidential, and free from judgement.

Working with neurodivergent clients

ADHD, ASD and other Neurodivergent disorders are a very essential part of Psychiatry. We would treat them specifically on a separate day in the hospital where I work to have more exposure and have proper attention. And that’s how I like to do here as well

Trauma

There’s no single fixed model.

We start with proper history taking and we start with medications, Exposure and Response Prevention, and Cognitive Restructuring
