Career transitions and money worry

A career decision is rarely only a career decision, and money worry is rarely only arithmetic.

Draft, awaiting clinical review

This page is a working draft. It has not yet been reviewed and approved by our clinical team, and it is not indexed by search engines until it is.

What this is about

Leaving a job, being let go, changing direction late, going freelance, moving countries for work, supporting people back home on one salary: these are situational, not symptoms, and they still take up an enormous amount of a person. In Indian families they usually come with an audience, and with a sense that the decision is not entirely yours to make.

What work here looks like

This is distinct from burnout, which is about depletion inside the work. Here the work is about deciding, and about carrying the uncertainty while you decide, without the shame that tends to attach to money in particular.

Nothing on this page is a diagnosis. If you are in immediate danger or worried you might act on thoughts of harming yourself, please contact Tele-MANAS (14416 or 1-800-89-14416, available 24×7 across India) or your local emergency services.
